And he just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich

Today, North met South. A courageous Canadian stepped up to take on the Ultimate Aussie Challenge - to eat an ENTIRE rice cracker... A rice cracker with (da, da, Dum) black sludge smeared on it. That's right, the 'black sludge' was some good old, Aussie Vegemite!

Let me put this into perspective: 'Vegemite' (similar to 'Marmite' in the UK) is a dark brown, savoury food paste made from yeast extract. Quite simply, it's the sludge taken from the bottom of the beer vats (Mmmm, Mmm!).

Prior to taking this challenge, the 'instruments of terror' where arranged before her:  the plate, a knife, one rice cracker and a tube of the most glorious of Aussie delights.

To quote Melissa upon inspection of the Vegemite: "It smells like the medicine you give your cat when it has a fur ball."

To quote this great athlete after she had dared to consume the Vegemite: "Mmmmm, that'll put hair on your chest!"

Congratulations Melissa, for taking this right of passage! You now have attained a greater understanding of what it's like to come from the land Down Under.

Good on ya!
Well, I have to say I am impressed, since I took a stab at eating some Marmite on a little square of toast and couldn't even make myself swallow. I then had to get the taste out of my mouth with some nutella and PB. EW. From decemberchick, on Sep 9, 2007 at 02:38AM
