Cast your memory back to around the 7th September 2007, when there was still very much a chill in the air for us over here, while in the northern hemisphere, those first dreaded leaves had begun to lose their summery grip on the trees and fall. To be honest the reason for this trip down memory lane, is that we didn't have time (read: were too slack) to create an entry for this period of our lives.
So instead we have traveled back in time to record this epic occasion of the birthday of Colin's Mum, Alma, who had just turned Sev..., umm, Fifty Four.
We climbed into the car (with scarves wrapped around at least one of us) and headed up to the wonderful scenic restaurant, just outside of Brisbane, called 'The Summit'. From there we were afforded a beautiful view of the city at night, for it was night time when we arrived at 7pm. Colin was disappointed (or perhaps confused?) when we got there, for our table was looking out at a different city other than Brisbane - it turned out that his memory had somehow gone cloudy and it did in fact, turn out to be of Brisbane city after all. The view was indeed spectacular and, as if timed perfectly, some fireworks went off in the distance just as her cake was presented to her (we still haven't finished eating that cake either!)
Melissa and Colin's next adventure which occurred shortly after this, was to head back to the Sunshine coast with a fair bit more sunshine this time, to enjoy the Eumundi Markets and have a romantic dinner at the Spirit House restaurant. We arrived up at Coolum at the Seacove resort, with not even a cloud in sky. As a result, we had to have a BBQ to welcome the country back to drought like conditions again.
The Eumundi market was just as a bustling market place should be with everything laid out higgledy-piggledy and with the yummy smell of food floating in the air. It all was quite inviting and we thought of buying a few things to take back as souvenirs, but on second thought, we would not have had enough room to put all this market booty.
That night, we arrived as the sun was setting over the Spirit House Thai restaurant, which is located in a tropical garden wilderness, directly behind the Yandina Ginger Factory. The entry to the Spirit House was lit up with fairy lights and tiki torches and looked very impressive against the darkening sky. That, combined with the melodic sounds of water rushing and the natural music from the local frogs and birds, created a beautiful atmosphere that is completely unrivaled. The food was spectacular and we would definitely advise a trip there if you are in the area. Oh and if you are interested, they also have a cooking course during the week as well.
