Since our return to Brisbane it has done nothing but rain. The water supply dams are now at 36% capacity (they have been as low as 18%). With this incessant rain, a few curious, natural animals have come to the surface. We have had our front garden peppered with mushrooms, the occasional frog ribbiting about the place and yes, even a large tree snake came out of hiding and thought that it might bask in the sun on top of our washing line last week!
Now, as if ONE snake wasn't bad enough, last night our cat Tigger came in looking very spooked and Colin's mum discovered that his usual sleeping place, was occupied by a two meter long python! For a human, this isn't such a worry (not poisonous), but Tigger was worried, as to the snake, he looked like a very tasty meal indeed!
Needless to say, Tigger spent the night inside (curled up at the bottom of Colin's mum's bed). In the morning, all efforts to extract the snake from inside the sunroom had failed - I guess leaving the door open and hoping he (or maybe she?) would wander off didn't work. So we decided to call in our local snake specialist.
Dave the "snake whisperer" came to the rescue! With everyone (including our scaredy-cat Tigger) looking on, he deftly managed to wrangle the snake and before long, he had it under his control ('coochie-coochie-coo').
Colin was keen to touch the snake and even gave him a stroke, but all that Melissa could say was: "When do we get our belt, bag and shoes?"
According to Dave, our 10 year old 'Monty Python' would be returned, much to Tigger's (and Melissa's) relief, to the local creek bed - many, many blocks away.
