We woke up kind of late today, stumbling out of bed at 10:30 am -- not sure
whether we are in Mountain time or plain old Eastern Standard time. We took a
few snaps of Mount Rushmore (check!) then headed into Deadwood to get some
breakfast.
Melissa introduced me to the glorious gastronomy of the 'Patty Melt', which she had on a previous trip here. It consists of a hamburger patty topped with grilled onions & cheese, all on grilled Rye bread. Mmmmm is all I can say!
Mandy, our GPS Californian automated tour guide, must have been out last night with
Lindsay Lohan, coz she kept leading us astray. Despite that, we managed to find our
way through the natural beauty of Wyoming to Sheridan, which is about 266 miles
from Old Faithful in Yellowstone National park. One of the highlights of the day, aside from Mt. Rushmore, was a visit to Devils tower.
While on our way we required an oil change. Usually when you pay by credit, you give
them a signature and you are good to go -- well not so in America. You also
need to give them your five digit "zip code" (which doesn't work when you have a Canadian "postal code" with 6 numbers/letters!). So after we had failed a few times and it was looking as if the oil was going to have to be removed from the engine. We decided to make one up and entered '90210' (the zip code of a certain Beverly Hills school). This worked great -- Who says TV rots your brain?
