Wyoming to Washington

It was always our intention to visit Yellowstone National Park to see and take pictures of 'Old Faithful' the glorious geyser.  But, one look out the window on this bleak, rainy day and no, not for us today.  As a substitute for seeing Old Faithful, Melissa showed me what I was missing on YouTube - a couple of deck chairs around a muddy hole in the ground with water spewing up as if from a broken fire hydrant. I felt ok about missing it, as so far we have clocked up a tremendous amount of driving. By skipping out on this, we would pretty much save on a day of hard core traveling.

Off we went taking a northerly route up through Montana. As we made our way along, the terrain gradually began to change from flat grasslands to rocky mountain high (and it was quite high up too!). The temperature became bearable again and with the rain beginning to clear, we found that we were surrounded by tremendous natural beauty - lots of sweeping mountains with hardly anyone about.

After Montana, where we drove up lofty mountains, we took a plunge down the other side, into Idaho. On the way down we again faced an equal array of natural beauty with canyons filled with water.

We shot quickly through Idaho into Washington State, where we spent the night in Spokane.  Hooray, civilization as we city dwellers know it started again! The sign that we had entered the 'first world', was not signaled by the advent of electrical poles or by the presence of law enforcement agents, but rather by the fact that my iPhone suddenly recognized AT&T. Everything was well with the world again...
